About Play Yellow

For many years Jack Nicklaus wore yellow to show his support for Craig, a young man battling cancer. Today, Jack and Barbara Nicklaus are inviting you to Play Yellow and show your support for kids like Craig. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the Play Yellow tournament benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals® (CMNH) at Monument Health. CMNH works to fund programs, state-of-the-art medical equipment and services for ill and injured kids.

2022 SDGA Mid-Amateur Championship

FORMAT

The Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship is a 36 hole stroke play competition.  The overall Champion will be the lowest 36 hole score, regardless of flight.  The event is pre-flighted based on handicap index.

PLAYER ELIGIBILITY

Players must be 25 years of age by the first day of competition AND, have an active GHIN membership at a South Dakota Golf Association member club for 2022. The 144-player field is selected as follows:

(if qualified applicant received by deadline):

  • (A) Past SDGA individual champions since 2000;
  • (B) Low 40 finishers from 2020 Mid-Amateur Championship;
  • (C) Through an 18-hole qualifying round  from the remaining pool of entrants held prior to the start of the tournament if the number of entrants exceeds 144.  If the total number of entries does not exceed 144, no qualifying round will be held.

This Championship is pre-flighted and flights will be determined by handicap index. Overall champion will be lowest 36-hole score regardless of flight.

SDGA Two-Man Championship

FORMAT

Day 1 – Four-Ball  /  Day 2 – SDGA Chapman.

SDGA CHAPMAN FORMAT

  • Both players hit a tee shot on each hole (Par 3’s, 4’s & 5’s). Partner’s hit each other’s ball for their second shot. For the third shot, a ball is selected by the team to be played for the remainder of the hole. If the second shot played by player A is chosen, player B will play the third shot. The team alternates shots until the ball is holed.

PLAYER ELIGIBILITY

At the time of registration for a championship, a player must have an active GHIN number on file at a member golf club of the South Dakota Golf Association that offers the GHIN Service to all its members;  AND

At the time of registration for a championship, a player must have posted a minimum of five (5) 18-hole scores in the previous 12 months at the South Dakota golf club in which he/she lists on the tournament application where his/her GHIN number is active.

104-team field will be selected as follows (if qualified applicant received by deadline):

  • (A) Past SDGA Two-Man champions since 2000;
  • (B) Low 70 (and ties) teams by gross score from the previous years event;
  • (C) Through an 18-hole four-ball stroke play qualifying round from the remaining pool of entrants held the day before the first competition round at HART RANCH GC, beginning at 8 AM. If the field is not full at the Early Entry deadline, all teams registered at that point are in the event and will not have to participate in a playoff if the event subsequently fills up. If total number of entries does not exceed 104 at the final deadline no qualifying round will be conducted.

Entire field will compete at gross and championship will be flighted based on team combined handicap index. Overall champion will be team with lowest 36-hole score regardless of flight.

Husband/Wife Championship

FORMAT:

Day 1 format is Select Tee Shot (both tee off then select best and play alternate shot).  Day 2 format is SDGA Chapman.

SDGA CHAPMAN FORMAT (All holes are played the same way)

  • BOTH PLAYERS HIT A TEE SHOT ON EACH HOLE (PAR 3’s, 4’s & 5’s), THEN YOU HIT YOUR PARTNERS BALL FOR THE 2ND SHOT.  FOR THE 3RD SHOT, A BALL (1) IS SELECTED BY THE TEAM TO BE PLAYED FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE HOLE.   THE TEAM ALTERNATES SHOTS UNTIL THE BALL IS HOLED. IF PLAYER A’S BALL IS SELECTED FOR THE 3RD SHOT, IT IS PLAYER B’S TURN TO PLAY.

Overall champion of each division will be the team with lowest 36-hole score regardless of flight.

Husband-Wife Division

The 100-team field will be selected as follows (if qualified applicant received by deadline):

  • (A) Past Husband-Wife champions since 2000;
  • (B) Through all qualified entrants received. Once the field reaches 100 teams, all others will be put on a waiting list in order received and will be added should a team withdraw.  If total number of entries does not exceed 100 teams, all teams meeting entrance requirement will be accepted.  Teams will compete at gross and the championship will be pre-flighted based on combined team index.

Highest index will be adjusted downward so there is not more than a 30-stroke differential.

Overall champion will be the team with lowest 36-hole score regardless of flight.  Size of field for this championship and the Senior Division will determine if championship uses tee times or a shotgun start.

Senior Husband-Wife Division

In order to compete in the Senior Division, men must be at least 55 years old and women must be at least 50 years old. The 100-team field will be selected as follows (if qualified applicant received by deadline):

  • (A) Past Husband-Wife champions since 2000;
  • (B) Through all qualified entrants received. Once the field reaches 100 teams, all others will be put on a waiting list in order received and will be added should a team withdraw.  If total number of entries does not exceed 100 teams, all teams meeting entrance requirement will be accepted.

Teams will compete at gross and the championship will be pre-flighted based on combined team index.  Highest index will be adjusted downward so there is not more than a 30-stroke differential

SDGA Match Play Championship

Men’s Match Play 

The 192-player field for qualifying will be selected as follows (if qualified applicant received by deadline):  (A) Past SDGA individual champions since 2000; (B) The final 32 players from 2020 championship; (C) Through an 18-hole qualifying round from the remaining pool of entrants held one day before the qualifying/seeding round at HILLSVIEW GC the day before competition.  If total number of applicants does not exceed 192, no qualifying round will be conducted. There will be an 18-hole round played on the Thursday of event week, to determine the 64-player Championship Bracket field for match-play. The remaining players will be seeded by score into either 16 or 32 player brackets, based on field size. If rain cancels qualifying round, the field will be seeded by handicap index with the defending champion (if entered) seeded No. 1. Top 64 seeds will play in the Championship Bracket. Double rounds of matches will be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Final match is 18 holes on Sunday.

Women’s Match Play

The 96-player field will be selected as follows (if qualified applicant received by deadline):  (A) Past SDGA individual champions since 2000; (B) The final 8 players from previous years championship; (C) Through an 18-hole qualifying round from the remaining pool of entrants held on the day prior to the seeding/qualifying round at HILLSVIEW GC beginning at 8 a.m.  If total number of applicants does not exceed 96, no qualifying round will be conducted, and all qualified applicants will be accepted. There will be an 18-hole round played on the Thursday of the event week to determine the 32-player field for the match-play portion of the Championship. All 32 players will be seeded 1-32 for the Championship based on Thursday’s round.  If rain cancels qualifying round, the field will be seeded by handicap index with the defending champion (if entered) seeded No. 1. If less than 32 players are entered, the size of the field will determine the number of byes for first-round session of matches on Friday. Players losing a first-round match will be entered into a single-elimination consolation bracket. Any players earning a first-round bye, will be entered into the single-elimination Championship Bracket. Double rounds of matches will be held on Saturday and Sunday. The championship match and consolation bracket championship matches will each consist of 18 holes and will be played on Sunday.

The SDGA reserves the right to alter the schedule of matches based on size of field.

SDGA Women’s Senior Championship

FORMAT:

The championship will be played at gross and the overall champion will be the golfer with the low gross score for 36 holes, regardless of flight.

Women’s Senior Championship 

Players must be at least 50 years of age by the first day of competition. The field will be selected (if qualified applicant received by deadline) as follows: (A) Past SDGA individual champions since 2000; (B) On a first-come basis until field reaches 72 players.  If total number of entries received does not exceed 72, all qualified entrants will be accepted. The number of entrants will determine if field is pre-flighted or if championship will consist of more than one flight. Determination of flights and sizes of flights is left to the discretion of the tournament committee.

SDGA Adult/Junior Championship

Age Divisions: 16-18, 14-15, 12-13, 10-11, and 9 & Under. The overall SDGA champion is the winner of the 16-18 Division. A team may declare to play in an older division.

Awards: For all age divisions except 16-18, there will be awards for both boys and girls.

Format: 18 holes, Alternate Shot for all divisions. Child tees off on odd-numbered holes, adult tees off on even-number holes.

Junior Eligibility: Open to junior golfers (Age 18 or less as of July 25, 2022) who reside in South Dakota or have a junior SDGA membership at a South Dakota member course and have at least 10 rounds posted at that club in the calendar year.

Adult Eligibility: The adult must be a relative of the child (father, mother, aunt, uncle, grandmother, grandfather, brother, sister, cousin) and must be at least 25 years of age. Golf professionals may compete but must hit from the longest set of tees in play for the tournament, regardless of the age division.
